this is one of the best expressions of the average 3 space in music that I know. the farcical lyrics, “I was cool as I picked up my Oscar for the best country album on tv” — a mishmash of awards across the entertainment industry.. the fantasy of the press asking “What’s it like to be me?” —> moving up to a deluxe apartment in my own private zip code in the sky — the loneliness and emptiness of chasing success in this manner. What do you really get? A nice apartment where no one else lives; And the chorus: “I won I won I won. Everyone loves me now. I’m going home with cash and prizes yeah.” And the bridge, “I didn’t come here for some sort of artistic satisfaction: I came here for the big time.” The final line: “and thank you for playing our game” — the feeling many 3s have … I ‘m just playing this society game. and doing whatever it takes to win… but then facing (or not), the emptiness of that whole thing, the absence of meaning: “make a right as you reach mount olympus and keep going til you have to stop; it’s a dark twisting road leading up there to the last gated mansion at the top”

Lyrics

I was cool as I picked up my Oscar

For the best country album on TV

The press was waiting to ask me some questions

Could I say what it felt like to be me?

Sing Hallelujah

Hallelujah

Oh yeah

Pack my things give my keys to the super

Tell all my friends I said goodbye

I’m moving up to a deluxe apartment

In my own private zip code in the sky

Sing Hallelujah

Hallelujah

I won

Everyone loves me now

Everyone wants me now

I’m going home with

Cash and prizes, yeah

Here’s a prayer that my grandmother taught me

In the glow of the giant TV screen

Lift me up Lord and rock me in the bosom

Of the almighty media machine

Sing Hallelujah

Hallelujah

I won

Everyone loves me now

Everyone wants me now

I’m going home with

Cash and prizes, yeah

I didn’t come here for some kind of artistic satisfaction

I didn’t come here for a lovely selection of parting gifts, you know

You know I came here

I came here for the

Big Time

I’m on the Big Time

Big Time

I’m on the Big Time

I’m on the Big Time

I’m on the Big Time

(Oh yeah)

Make a right when you reach mount olympus

And keep going ‘til you have to stop

It’s a dark, twisting road leading up there

To the last gated mansion at the top

Sing Hallelujah

Hallelujah

I won

Everyone loves me now

Everyone wants me now

I’m going home with

Cash and prizes, yeah

And thank you for playing our game
